From July 6 to 8, we exhibited two prototypes as part of “Critical Practices” at the 5th International Conference on Structures & Architecture (ICSA 2022) in Aalborg, Denmark. On July 6, Prof. Segal presented conference papers on both projects.

For the first prototype, Acrylic Pixel, was constructed from heat slumped scrap acrylic. The design team and the co-authors of the paper, “Reuse and Misuse with Heat Formed Acrylic,” are Albert Chao (University at Buffalo), Prof. Segal, Lisa Ramsburg (Princeton University), and Powell Draper (Entuitive).

The second prototype consisted of trays of clay that cracked over the duration of the exhibition as well as a segment of a Cast & Place panel. The design team and the co-authors of the paper “Cast & Place: A Cast Aluminum Pavilion Defined by Clay,” are Prof. Segal, Lisa Ramsburg (Princeton University), Josh Draper (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute), Scot Thompson, Powell Draper (Entuitive), Bruce Lindsay, Max Dowd, and Alexandra A. H. Cheng. For additional information on the pavilion visit Cast & Place.
