formfound was an entry in the 2018 Street Seats: Urban Benches for Vibrant Cities competition. The objective of the competition was to provide a sustainable outdoor bench for Portland, OR. This project continued the physical investigations undertaken while developing the design proposal for Shells, etc. Fabric is pinned to the underside of a board and allowed to hang. Wet concrete is applied to the fabric. When the concrete cures the bench is flipped into its final configuration. While formfound was not realized at the full-scale, a small-scale model of the bench was exhibited at the Design Museum Portland (June 7, 2018 – August 31, 2018).
